Awkward

X: And when i told my parents about her, they were shocked. They weren't exactly shocked that i liked someone, but that how could I be so "stupid" to have become so "serious" about her. It was an awkward moment: knowing that my parents would rather wish me to be a flirt than to be truly in love.

My parents would rather I were a stupid straight girl with casual boyfriends than a serious lesbian in a committed relationship.

Yes , parents usually have preformed notions about their children's relationships and about marraige . They want their lives to be straemlined according to their notions of correctness.

such a bizarre experience living in pakistan. you think you've lived life well by not becoming one of those testosterone filled jackasses, only to find that the path you have chosen leads to self-doubt and general ridicule. oh well :)

Haha! This actually reminds me of the parents of one of my male students who had been in a serious long term relationship for 4 years. The mother wanted ME to make her son understand that serious relationships aren't "correct". She said that her older son never gave her any reason to worry because he kept flitting between girlfriends every few weeks. :p
