There was no such connection

'There was no such connection'

Parveen Shakir
Translated by Professor Alamgir Hashmi

There was no such connection between us.
Your shoulders held up no roofing.
I guarded no courtyard.
There was no promise to chain your feet.
No reassurance gripped at my wrist.
You were free
like the desert wind.
The paths were all your wishes' ways.
I, too, I see
had full use of my loneliness.

But today when you
switched your path to avoid me,
it seemed to us as if
you had not been faithful to me.

i know this poem :-)

Simply beautiful.
I personally think that no matter how good a translation is, it could never be like the original poem.
